The Sheik
The movie “The Sheik” was all the rage when the news of the discovery of King Tut’s tomb was announced, furthering the interest in things “Oriental.”

You have seen on the screen ev’ry day,
Burning sands in the lands far away,
But here on old Manhattan Isle,
You see the same thing all the while,
They call Broadway a desert land,
But Gee! you ought to see,
Nightly a caravan,
Moves up and down the Strand.

CHORUS:
Broadway Caravan,
In that arid land
Beneath the light so bright,
Maidens meek, meet some Sheik ev’ry night;
(a diff’rent one)
Happy faces there,
Find oases there,
And just like camels ev’ry one goes ten days without a drink,
I don’t think,
In that grand Broadway Caravan.

Melodies o’er the seas far away,
Are the rage on the stage here today,
And all the dances people do,
Are Oriental through and through,
Since old King Tut came back again,
The styles have changed around,
Most ev’ry girl in town,
Wears an Egyptian gown.
