Henry Sullivan
Sahara Derby
Composed for “Sahara Derby,” Dartmouth College Winter Carnival, Feb., 1923.

Softly stealing Through the amber air,
As twilight falls The moon enthralls.
Phantom trees Swayed by a perfumed breeze.
The desert calls And we must follow.

CHORUS:
Evening with shadows falling,
Egypt, I hear you calling.
Silver sands in the moonlight gleaming.
Magic strands, where phantoms stray
(fantastic ghostly)
Dreaming of bygone splendors,
Romance to love surrenders.
Sands of Nile in the pale light shining,
Mystic Egyptian Moon.
