Lyrics

Synopsis: A detatchment of native soldiers approach and pass through the village, then a song from a boat on the Nile is heard softly across the water; a short passage depicting an Arab playing his pipe, leads to a repetition of the song-melody. The soldiers return and osme of them sing the song in harmony. A few bars of the melody bring the piece to a quiet conclusion.

The Song from a Boat on the Nile

Oh maid of beauteous tresses,
And eyes of soft caresses,
Your glance is all beguiling,
And your lips are ever smiling;
Let us float together,
For ever and for ever,
To some far distant Isle,
Adown the mystic Nile.
