But could not steal her heart away;

When the moon was shining bright,

They tried to flee from the land,
But were pursued by the Sheik and his band,
Who wished to steal the maid away,
They had to hide thorughout the day,
But when the sun sank to rest,
Then the lovers stole away,
To the land of the West,
And they oft sat by night,
When the moon shone so bright,
